Back to Basic, Nokia X3 Touch and Type Announced

Equipped with a touch screen as well as the traditional 12 button phone keypad, Nokia X3 Touch and Type (X3-02) is coming this quarter with a price of euro 125. According to Nokia, it will initially offer the X3-02 in China, Ireland & UK, Russia, Australia & New Zealand, Singapore, Germany, Spain & Portugal, France, Mexico and Saudi & Yemen.

Powered by the Series 40, the Nokia X3-02 is packed in a 9.6mm thin body. It comes with built in WiFi, FM radio receiver, 5 megapixel camera and support 3G wireless data connection.  It also features dedicated music and messaging keys allowing fast access to important Ovi services including social and entertainment applications. In addition to Ovi Mail, people’s favorite consumer email and chat accounts can be pushed direct to the phone via Nokia Messaging.

Nokia Starts Accepting Preorders For Nokia N8 US

Nokia N8 is schedule to launch on late September, but you can starts preorder the handset at Nokia USA’s official website now. The full retailed price of Nokia N8 is $549 without contract. The handset priced is comparable to DROID X and Samsung Vibrant (without contract).

Nokia N8 features a 12-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, a five-band WCDMA 850/900/1700/1900/2100 modem, and 16GB of storage. The Nokia N8 provides several accessories in the box such as the USB cable, the HDMI adapter cable, a stereo headset and travel charger, and the USB OTG cable which allows the device to access external storage. Nokia Refuses To Enter Android World

Most of the most wanted smartphones in the market are powered by Android, iPhone, and RIM as their operating system. Despite that, Nokia is still one of the leading manufacturer, holding 38% of the global smartphone market.

Nokia has been using Symbian as their main operating system but recently switched to MeeGo platform. Many has been questioning if Nokia will uses Android considering the success of Android devices. Unfortunately, Nokia sternly proclaimed that they will not be using Android. Niklas Savander, a representative of Nokia, said they will not hand over their future to a third party. They will stick to MeeGo and Symbian.

TripAdvisor Teams Up With Nokia for Nokia Maps Integration

TripAdvisor has announced a new partnership with Nokia, which will include an Ovi app for Nokia’s Ovi Store, and integration of the TripAdvisor service into Nokia’s Ovi Maps.

The TripAdvisor for Nokia app allows travelers to search for popular hotels, restaurants and attractions in their vicinity, as well as find the cheapest airfares available. The app is available in 12 different languages, giving travelers around the globe a localized TripAdvisor experience.

“Our collaboration with Nokia further strengthens our commitment to providing trusted and valuable travel advice at home or on the go,” said Steve Kaufer, TripAdvisor founder and CEO. “We are thrilled to launch TripAdvisor for Nokia which gives even more travelers a new way to access the more than 35 million traveler reviews and opinions available on TripAdvisor.”

As part of the agreement, a dedicated TripAdvisor service will also be integrated into the popular Ovi Maps environment.

The TripAdvisor for Nokia app is available for free to all Nokia Symbian touchscreen smartphone users globally today on the Ovi store. TripAdvisor for Ovi Maps launches today in select markets, with full global roll-out scheduled within a month.

Clarion and Nokia Team Up on Connected Car Technology

Clarion and Nokia today announced that they are collaborating on Terminal Mode, a technology that will connect mobile devices and car infotainment systems. Both companies say this collaboration will further boost the development of next-generation smart car infotainment systems.

Through this partnership Clarion aims to develop the smartphone interface that Nokia and Consumer Electronics for Automotive, CE4A are proposing as industry standard, as well as to build an application service business for in-car devices utilizing the Ovi Store application service by Nokia. Clarion is also targeting accelerated development and greater commercial dominance of in-car information systems for the Europe and North America markets where Nokia has a strong presence, as well as China and other emerging markets.

“By integrating the Terminal Mode technology into in-car information systems such as car navigation developed by Clarion, we will be able to bring to customers the vast array of applications and services available to smartphones on in-car devices. The integration of in-car devices with smartphones will provide better user experiences for consumers and lead to radical changes in in-car information systems,” says Tatsuhiko Izumi, president of Clarion.
