Cuusoo phone: Detach your screen while making a call

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Cuuso, the Japanese concept design community, has recently created the Cuusoo concept phone. Since the most or perhaps all the today’s smart phone are undetachable, this concept gadget offers a very interesting innovation: users are able to detach the phone’s screen while making a call!

Designed by the Japan-based designer known as Marimo-san, the clamshell phone will allow users to engage in video phone calls on the go in the way they like.

I guess the detach monitor will communicate with the phone’s body by using Bluetooth connections. No further the phone’s spesifications available.

Let’s wait until which phone maker will pick up this concept and release it to the market. Keep up the great work, Marimo-san!

A PDA Sized Satellite Phone

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Indeed, this is a nice and elegant satellite phone. At glance, it looks like the certain handsets of Sony Ericsson and Motorola. The concept phone is a new generation of Windows Mobile handset, similar in size to today’s PDA. This phone will allow users to stay connected to both the satellite and terrestrial network.

Elektrobit (EB) and TerreStar have said that they are working to enable device manufacturers to rapidly bring the world’s first quad-band GSM and tri-band WCDMA/HSPA smartphone to the market. The handset will also have integrated all-IP satellite-terrestrial voice and data capabilities.

Initial commercial availability of the concept phone is planned for H1 2009 (oh, can’t hardly wait!).

According to Dennis Matheson, chief technology officer, TerreStar Networks, this handset is intending to help enterprises, rural communities, the nation’s homeland defense and public safety agencies to communicate and create business continuity.

TerreStar Networks is a USA-based company that operates integrated satellite and terrestrial telecommunications systems. It is a subsidiary of TerreStar Corporation.

Listed on OMX Helsinki, EB is specialized in demanding embedded software and hardware solutions for automotive and wireless industries.

HTC Census does no calls

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

You would be surprised to hear that while the upcoming HTC Census might be a dual-band CDMA/EV-DO device, it is missing a microphone or speakerphone for you to hold a conversation. The reason behind this is the Census will be a data-only device, featuring a phone jack for you to hook it up to a landline network. Features include a 3.5″ QVGA touchscreen display, an SD memory card slot, an integrated SiRFStar III GPS receiver, and a fingerprint sensor for added protection. The Census will be powered by an Intel Bulverde 416MHz processor and run on the Windows Mobile 5 for Pocket PC OS.From uberphones.com
