A PDA Sized Satellite Phone

Indeed, this is a nice and elegant satellite phone. At glance, it looks like the certain handsets of Sony Ericsson and Motorola. The concept phone is a new generation of Windows Mobile handset, similar in size to today’s PDA. This phone will allow users to stay connected to both the satellite and terrestrial network.

Elektrobit (EB) and TerreStar have said that they are working to enable device manufacturers to rapidly bring the world’s first quad-band GSM and tri-band WCDMA/HSPA smartphone to the market. The handset will also have integrated all-IP satellite-terrestrial voice and data capabilities.

Initial commercial availability of the concept phone is planned for H1 2009 (oh, can’t hardly wait!).

According to Dennis Matheson, chief technology officer, TerreStar Networks, this handset is intending to help enterprises, rural communities, the nation’s homeland defense and public safety agencies to communicate and create business continuity.

TerreStar Networks is a USA-based company that operates integrated satellite and terrestrial telecommunications systems. It is a subsidiary of TerreStar Corporation.

Listed on OMX Helsinki, EB is specialized in demanding embedded software and hardware solutions for automotive and wireless industries.
